A little detail of one of the illustrations for the children’s book for Pica.. which I finished at last!

Koro is waiting for brother fire to come around and take care of the forest. Koro says: “That will teach them.”

I reanimated my Flickr account, and uploaded a selection of photos from Bologna, and some snapshots too. Now there’s only a few trips I still need to sort out and then I’m finally up to date with my travel photos. Let’s see how long that will take me..

I cycled through the countryside for hours, submerged in the scent of flowers.

I spent the last days trying to work on my relationship with analogue acrylics and in the end reverted to my true love, i.e. Photoshop. It’s the first drawing for the new Pica book, and it’s finished! It’s the cover, so the part on the right will wrap around and become the front of the book, with the title at the top part, and the left half of the drawing will serve as the backdrop for the text on the back. The story is about two children who get slightly lost in the forest, and what befalls them.. You can read how it ends and see the rest of the drawings in autumn, when the book will be published!

Working on a new children’s book for Pica.

I came back from the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, with heaps of inspiration, books and business cards. On the airplane I met Siri, Cecile, Lobke and Jorine, four illustrating girls from the Netherlands and I had a great time (and heaps of icecream) with them, including meeting mr. Carll Cneut himself in the most wonderful children’s bookstore..
Two supernice group exhibitions and book appearances coming up in April:
Curvy 6 — And all of the sudden she was human again will be included in the new Curvy book. Here’s the complete list with the 120 participating artists, selected from 1600 artists from all over the world. Next to the book, the drawing will be in the Curvy 2009 exhibition too, at Mori Gallery, Sydney, opening on April 2, 8-11 PM, running until April 17, 2009.
Grafuck 4 — Love at first sight will be part of the next Grafuck book and Happy Sleepy will be on display at the Grafuck group exhibition at Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, Los Angeles, USA. Opening night on April 11, 7-11 PM, until April 20, 2009. These two drawings are also available as limited editions in the shop.
And now I’m off to pack my things for the Children’s Book Fair in Bologna!

Here’s Sieben’s latest album, As they should sound, with live photos that I made last summer in Utrecht. It’s always nice to see my concert photos ending up somewhere useful, especially at musicians that I like so much! The booklet is beautifully designed by Othila. The album will officially be released March 30, you can buy it at the Sieben website.

Exhibition at the Chiellerie, Amsterdam, 30 Jan – 5 Feb 2009. A while back my work was seen at a cultural afternoon gathering and as a result of that, I was asked to show my work at this pretty gallery in the center of Amsterdam.
